Grant Proposal Guidelines

Letter of Inquiry

Whole Systems accepts a limited number of grant proposals each year. We fund projects related to the environment and living sustainably on the Earth. We take a broad view of the world situation, and seek to insert a small but useful financial boost where we see that we have the most leverage for change. If you look through our past projects you may get a sense of the diversity of projects we support. As a result is it difficult to stipulate on paper exactly what our criteria are. Thus we encourage any group interested in applying for a grant to submit a one page letter of inquiry before making the effort to write a full proposal.

Project Criteria

We are seeking projects that include at least one and preferably more than one of the following factors:

1. Address root causes of environmental degradation rather than secondary issues.
2. Facilitate increased awareness of the interdependence of human well being with the health of the rest of the ecosystem.
3. Have the support of the local community or grass roots organizations.

Note: We regret that Whole Systems Foundation does not have the resources to effectively make grants to organizations located outside the United States.

If you feel that your organization meets the above general guidelines please send us a summary of your project. This should include:

1. What is the mission of your organization?
2. What is the specific project you are seeking funds for? How does it meet the criteria listed above?
3. What are the qualifications of the organization's leadership?
4. What is the annual budget for the organization and the project?
5. What is the size of the grant you are requesting?
6. Any other information that you feel is important for us to know at this time.
